What Size Should I Display My Portraits At?
Do you ever wonder "What size should I have my portraits printed?" Choosing the right size portraits is not just about choosing a pre-determined size you THINK you want, but looking at the space you will be displaying them in, then choosing a size that shows your portraits at their best.
When you choose a photographer, and you have been to your photo session, and now you are at your viewing session, the best bit of advice I can offer you is to come prepared. If you have chosen a good photographer, they should not just be trying to sell you the largest most expensive option they have! They should be working WITH you to help guide and select what is best for you, your home and your budget.
If you live somewhere with a small amount of wall space, and tiny rooms, there is no point getting a 30" x 40" Canvas or Frame and trying to fit it in - purchase what suits your home. However, if you have a larger home with more wall space and larger rooms, then a 10 " x 12" or even 16" x 24" will loose its impact in that room, unless you create collections.
Before your viewing session, discuss with your partner where you would like to hang your portrait, and if you would like to have a statement piece, or a collection of portraits to tell your story.
Measure your wall spaces, look at the colours in the room/rooms you are going to display your portraits in - that way when it comes time to invest in your portraits, you will be doing so with an informed mind.
